Hello, my name is Mr. Oscar Zepeda III. I will be the 6th grade Science teacher at Donna Wernecke Elementary. The 2018-2019 school year is my 10th year teaching and 8th year teaching in Sharyland. I taught PE here at Donna Wernecke in 2010-2011 and I am very excited to teach most of the students I had in PE here at Wernecke when they were second graders. I will be teaching Science with a very group oriented, hands on, learning environment that will incorporate as much 21st century technology as I can. I will use all of the training I received to teach your children the best way I can. I know that with the help of my wonderful sixth grade team, Wernecke Elementary Administration, and Front Office Staff we will do our best to make sure your son/daughter has a great sixth grade year and will have a smooth transition into the junior high. I received my education in my hometown of Rio Grande City and graduated in 2002. I then went on to UTPA were I graduated with a double major in Kinesiology and English in 2010. I have one year of teaching experience in Houston, Tx with Springbranch ISD as a health fitness instructor at Memorial Drive Elementary. I have too teaching certificates; PE k-12 & Generalist 4-8. Health Fitness is a big part of my life and I will be sure to incorporate the healthily active lifestyle in my classroom. I will also incorporate some techniques I used as an Reading/ELA teacher to be a great Science teacher as well. I will also be helping the students in the STAAR Reading Test as best as I can. My previous two years of teaching experience were at Harry Shimotsu Elementary were I team taught with Mrs. Dougherty. I will bring the success I had in Shimotsu over here to Wernecke as your children and I reunite to learn about Science. We will make real life connections, learn how to be scientific and prepare to KNOCK OUT the STAAR in April.
I want to use this platform to encourage all parents and students to contact me at any time about things going on in the classroom or about activities that the school is hosting. The absolute best way to contact me is by email, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I also want to encourage all my students to be as active in their school and community as they can. Colleges really do look at how active a student is and 6th grade is the prime place to start. In case you want to know where your son/daughter is during the day at school, here is the daily schedule for 6th grade.
